The first garden railroad
Das älteste Foto, daß von einer Modellbahn existiert,
zeigt eine Gartenbahn im Park von Saint-Cloud bei Paris.
Diese Anlage wurde 1859 für den kaiserlichen Prinzen
Napoléon Eugène Louis Bonaparte aufgebaut.
Somit war der kleine Prinz das erste Kind,
das nachweisbar eine Modelleisenbahn besaß.
Spurweite und Antriebstechnik sind nicht bekannt,
jedoch kann man an der Größe des Kinderzeltes rechts im Bild die Größe schätzen.
Das Foto befand sich im > Museon di Rodo in Uzès in Südfrankreich.
Leider existiert das Museum nicht mehr,
und somit ist der Verbleib der Modellbahn und des Originalfotos nicht bekannt.
Teile der Sammlung sollen sich angeblich im Spielzeugmuseum
> Musée du Jouet et du Petit Train in Colmar – Frankreich befinden.

The oldest photo that exists of a model railroad,
shows a garden railroad in the park of Saint-Cloud near Paris.
This layout was built in 1859 for the imperial prince
Napoléon Eugène Louis Bonaparte.
Thus, the little prince was the first child
who demonstrably owned a model railroad.
Gauge and drive technology are not known,
but one can estimate the size of the children’s tent on the right side of the picture.
The photo was in the Museon di Rodo in Uzès / South of France.
Unfortunately, the museum no longer exists,
and therefore the whereabouts of the model railroad and the original photo are not known.
Parts of the collection are said to be in the
Toy Museum Musée du Jouet et du Petit Train in Colmar, France.
